ABOUT

Boian Videnoff is the Music Director of the Mannheim Philharmonic, which he founded in 2009 and has since developed into one of Europe’s leading young orchestras. As a guest conductor, he has appeared with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Israel Camerata Jerusalem, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Kremerata Baltica, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra and the George Enescu Philharmonic, among others.

His engagements have taken him to many of Europe’s leading concert halls, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie im Gasteig and Herkulessaal Munich, Kölner Philharmonie, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Queen Elisabeth Hall Antwerp, Auditorium “La Verdi” Milan, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Stadtcasino Basel and the Liederhalle Stuttgart. Among his artistic collaborators are Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Daniil Trifonov, Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Maria João Pires, Sergei Babayan and Gautier Capuçon.

Opera is another focus of Videnoff’s artistic work. He has conducted La Traviata, La Bohème and Madama Butterfly at the Sofia National Opera, Turandot at the Opéra de Dijon, Rigoletto in Bari, and launched the Mannheim Philharmonic’s new series of semi-staged opera productions with Tosca. His operatic collaborations include Sonya Yoncheva, Kristine Opolais, Ludovic Tézier, Freddie De Tommaso, Kristina Mkhitaryan, Liparit Avetisyan, Simone Piazzola and Davide Giusti.

Alongside his conducting career, Videnoff is deeply committed to broadening access to classical music. At the Mannheim Philharmonic he established a programme of free educational concerts and open rehearsals for schools, children and families. He also founded the orchestra’s own label, MaPhil Records, releasing recordings with artists including Martha Argerich, while expanding the orchestra’s digital reach through high-quality audio and video productions that now attract more than 5 million annual views and streams across YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music.

His entrepreneurial work extends to music technology as the founder of Enote, whose AI-powered digital sheet music platform was described by The Guardian as “a game-changer for musicians.”

Born in 1987 into a distinguished Bulgarian musical family, Boian Videnoff grew up in Italy and Germany. He studied violin, piano, oboe and voice before studying conducting with Jorma Panula and Gianluigi Gelmetti.
